چکیده
This study applied graph theory to conduct an empirical analysis of the evolution global maritime container shipping networks, mainly focusing on 1970s. In addition analyzing change in overall structures networks over long term (from 1970s present) and midterm (in 1970s), authors examined changes before after reopening Suez Canal 1975. As a result, it was confirmed that initial single polar network structure, which New York other North American ports were placed at center, changed multipolar finally forming hub-and-spoke structure. Subsequently, discontinuous inter-regional density from 1975 1976 caused by increase average number call 1976, because recession first oil crisis 1973 decreased demand, surplus containerships. would contribute accumulating knowledge vulnerability present future networks.

Optimization in container liner shipping
We will gives an overview of several decision problem encountered in liner shipping. We will cover problems on the strategic, tactical and operational planning levels as well as problems that can be considered at two planning levels simultaneously. Furthermore, we will shortly discuss some related problems in terminals, geographical bottlenecks for container ships and provide an overview of ope...
متن کاملThe container shipping network design problem with empty container repositioning
This paper addresses the design of container liner shipping service networks by explicitly taking into account empty container repositioning. Two key and interrelated issues, those of deploying ships and containers are usually treated separately by most existing studies on shipping network design. In this paper, both issues are considered simultaneously. The problem is formulated as a two-stage...
متن کاملImproving Packing Efficiency for Shipping Container
This present paper focused on the efficiency improvement on the container packing. The modified genetic algorithm (MGA) was developed to find the solution of arranging heterogeneous boxes into containers with a standardised dimension. The proposed MGA included an elitist strategy and flexible arranging sequence (FAS). Five instant datasets were used in the computational experiments aiming to be...
متن کاملA Review of the Maritime Container Shipping Industry as a Complex Adaptive System*
If we consider the worldwide maritime shipping industry as a system, we observe that a large number of independent rational agents such as port authorities, shipping service providers, shipping companies, and commodity producers play a role in achieving predominant positions and in increasing market share. The maritime shipping industry can, from this perspective, be defined as a Complex System...
متن کاملContainer Liner Shipping Alliances, Excess Investment, and Antitrust Immunity
Introducing the unique characteristics of the international marine transport industry, this paper examines whether load capacity is excessive or insufficient in the presence of uncertainty on the future economic situation in terms of both welfare of one country and global welfare. We also consider the effect of alliances and the application of antitrust immunity on capacity building of shipping...
